  ELLIS COUNTY – The lone local GOP primary runoff held May 26 resulted in a win for Matthew Zajic for County Commissioner Precinct 2. Current commissioner in Prec. 2 Lane Grayson will now be vacating the seat he resigned from on May 1.

7-year-old Ferris boy dies after being shot by his 3-year-old brother

  FERRIS – Seven-year-old Treshawn Moore died after being accidentally shot by his three-year-old brother. Police indicated the shooting unfolded after the toddler picked up an unsecured firearm. Two family members drove the boy to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Former Ferris councilman charged in shooting

  PLEASANT GROVE – Victor Burnett, 66, faces multiple aggravated assault charges and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Police said the shooting happened around 7 p.m. last Tuesday, after two teenagers went inside an unoccupied newly built home.

Car crash takes life of former Red Oak student

  RED OAK – A former Red Oak ISD student was killed in a two-vehicle crash last week on her way home from college at Louisiana State University. Courtney Hodge, 19, was a freshman at LSU and was traveling home to Red Oak for the summer when she was in the fatal accident on Louisiana Highway 190.
