GARRETT – The old City Hall building in Garrett came down on Tuesday, July 7 as demolition crews officially began work at 9 a.m. to bring it down.
Garrett was formally incorporated in 1956, and the old building served the municipality for roughly 70 years before its demolition.
The building was demolished for two primary municipal reasons: clearing space for future civic development – part of the city’s long-term master plan; and the demolition was deliberately timed to coincide with the mobilization of heavy road crews who arrived last week to begin the long-anticipated Beverly Drive street and drainage reconstruction project.
Road crews have already moved heavy grading, utility, and paving machinery onto Beverly Drive.
