This week was move-in day at the new Ellis County Central facility

ELLIS COUNTY – County employees began moving in to the new Ellis County Central facility at 302 N. Monroe Street Monday.Overall, the building cost roughly $10 million in construction fees to Rogers O’Brien, and the construction management was headed by Tyler Koch of Kitchell.

FERRIS – On Sunday, Oct. 6, the City of Ferris honored its two fallen officers at the Fallen Officer Memorial with words from Jesus Mancillas, Director of the Department of Public Safety, Deputy City Manager John DeLeon and Jeff Aaron.

Waxahachie youth pastor pleads guilty to sexually assaulting 4 minors

WAXAHACHIE – Ellis County and District Attorney Ann Montgomery announced that Marvin Scales, 53, of Waxahachie, Texas, pled guilty to two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and one count of sexual assault of a child.

Ellis County K9 “Tex” leads narcotics arrest

ELLIS COUNTY –  Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies made a narcotics arrest last week with the helped of its well-trained K9 “Tex” and his deputy partner.

Red Oak Police investigating early-morning shooting

RED OAK – Red Oak Police officers were dispatched to a vehicle parked in front of a residence in the 600 block of Cherry Hills Road on Sept. 29 at 4:26 a.m. The reporting person called 9-1-1 and advised a subject had shot her and that the subject had fled the scene.

3rd Annual RFR Car Show Oct. 5

FERRIS – Everyone loves a car show, and this weekend the Robert F. Rodriguez Leadership Foundation will be hosting its 3rd annual scholarship benefit with a free car show at Mutz Memorial Park.  The benefit is from noon to 6 p.m.

Ennis changes downtown development, tourism director placed on leave

ENNIS – Amid the number of changes in Ennis over the last month with the departure of the City Manager and one of its City Council members, the Downtown Development and Tourism Director, Becky McCarty, was also placed on paid administrative leave for undisclosed reasons earlier this month.

Deadly Ferris house fire investigated

FERRIS – According to Ellis County Todd Little’s office, the Ellis County Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that occurred in the 700 block of East India Road in Ferris last week, Sept. 19.The call came in around 6:15 a.m.The fire left one person dead due to heavy fire and smoke inhalation.
