Biden signs more executive orders in first days than any president to date

FERRIS – While it is not unusual for incoming presidents to sign executive orders, presidential memos and proclamations, U.S. President Joe Biden seems to be on a strong roll. On the first day Biden was in office, he signed 17 executive actions.

ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department recovered over a quarter of a million dollars in stolen property last week. The stolen property was recovered thanks to a local resident’s tip.

Wilmer Fire Chief Mark Hamilton spearheaded the virtual tour after Petta welcomed those who were there to celebrate the big day. The station fire fighters were previously housed in was 60-years-old. Fire Station No. 1 is located at 1420 Goode Road.

WILMER – The City of Wilmer had its grand opening Jan. 4 showcasing the city’s new Fire Station No. 1. Long anticipated, Wilmer mayor Sheila Petta, city council members and fire fighters were in attendance for the ribbon cutting and virtual tour of the new station.

WILMER – Wilmer’s newly elected Mayor Sheila Petta was appointed to the Texas Municipal League Small Cities Advisory Council earlier this month. This will be Petta’s first time to serve, as she is serving in her first term as Wilmer’s mayor.

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety announced late last week the closure of the Texas State Capitol “out of an abundance of caution” until Thursday of this week. The Capitol was closed from Saturday, Jan. 16 until Wednesday, Jan. 20.

ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioners’ Court approved $50,000 last week with a nod to supporting the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center. On Jan. 12, county commissioners approved the authorization of a payment to the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center.
