 ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioners took no action on an agenda item to approve a countywide burn ban.It was pointed out what a difference the last 10 days made for the county, which was when the item was placed on the agenda.

Ennis special election called for Jan. 31 to replace mayor and mayor pro tem

 ENNIS – The Ennis special election has been called for Jan. 31, 2026 to fill the vacant seats for Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.Both seats are open due to the resignations of Mayor Kameron Raburn and Mayor Pro Tem Lynda Isbell. Raburn vacated his seat to run for Ellis County Judge.

Train tracks near Alma City Hall a concern

 ALMA – Alma Mayor Renee Jones told residents on her Facebook page, the ongoing issues with the train tracks located near City Hall is being addressed.She acknowledged the “poor quality of the recent repairs.”Alma residents have been concerned regarding the train tracks for some time.

The Ellis County Press named Ovilla paper of record

 OVILLA – The Ellis County Press has once again been named Ovilla’s paper of record.The decision was made last week at the Ovilla City Council meeting.The vote was 3-2.ECP had been the city’s paper of record for many years, but a few years ago the designation had been given to a competing paper.

EYES ON ELLIS COUNTY (October 30, 2025)

 ALMAAlma’s City Council addressed zoning ordinance public hearings, an ordinance amending the budget to increase the salary of the assistant city administrator, as well as an ordinance to change the speed limit from 15 mph to 25 mph on Main Street in Alma at last week’s city council meeting.
