The believer’s mission statement (part 1)

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings (the gospel of Jesus Christ) to the poor.” – Isaiah 61:1 The prophet Isaiah prophesied of the beginning of the Messiah’s ministry years ahead in the future.

OUT TO PASTOR: I miss my good friend, Tom Foolery

This past week the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage and I were having a conversation. Of course, it was more like a monologue, but you know how that works. We were thinking back over the years of our life together and reminding ourselves of some of the great and wonderful times we have had.

The creative power of prayer (part 10)

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

OUT TO PASTOR: Have mouth, will stutter

I pride myself with the ability to express myself with the proper wording. I enjoy words and seeing how they relate one to another. Unfortunately, it has not always the case. I have found through the years that I have developed quite the art of stuttering.

HOPE FOR TODAY: Path to eternal citizenship

I have been told in Germany, “Decker” is as common as Miller or Smith in the United States. And my mother’s maiden name is Broman, which has roots in Finland and Switzerland.

The creative power of prayer (part 9)

“And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” – Matthew 6:13 God does not tempt us, nor does He lead us into temptation because we are tempted when we are led astray by our own desires and lusts.

HOPE FOR TODAY: Choosing to love and forgive my dad

This is not a February valentine column about a love between a man and woman. Rather, it is about a complex love between a father and son.

A fallen America (part 4)

GOD IS AMERICA’S FOUNDATION God is not a religion, God is an entity and is the creator of all things no man or government has the right to remove God from any establishment, public, private or political.

The creative power of prayer (part 8)

“And forgive us our sins as we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.” – Luke 11:4 In order to come before God we must be free from sin and release everyone that has unforgiveness toward us or we, them.

OUT TO PASTOR: The end of all nonsense and other practical jokes

When it comes to practical jokes, Yours Truly is always on the ready. Throughout my earthly passage, I have perpetuated my share of practical jokes. I will not enumerate them here, the simple reason being, I might want to bring one out of retirement.
