ON THE JOB TRAINING (part 11)

Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him,  saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.”

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Lickin’ that calf again!

Good week to all. Welcome to the “front porch.” About a decade ago, I heard the great motivational speaker Zig Ziglar tell a memorable story. It kind of reminded me of what my mama or Grandma would have told me as they tried to get me to grow up right.

OUT TO PASTOR: It’s my tongue and I’ll wag it if I want to

Like everybody else, I have my share of trouble. It’s not that I want to get into trouble, but trouble always seems to be somewhere near where I am at the time. Some trouble I can’t prevent. It just happens, and no matter what I do, trouble is in the room.

ON THE JOB TRAINING (Part 10)

When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Eagles are majestic (but don’t tamper with ’em!)

Good week to all. Welcome to the “front porch.” As I write, the amazin’ blonde and I are sitting in Alaska, nearly to the end of the earth, it seems. We are staying in a hotel called “Land’s End” in Homer, which is at the tip-end of a spit at the far northern end of this great state.

OUT TO PASTOR: To scam or not to scam, that is the phone call

One day this past week, I decided to stay home and catch up on a little bit of reading. The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage had a day planned of shopping as well as an appointment at her doctor. She would be gone the whole day, and so I would have the entire day to myself.

ON THE JOB TRAINING (part 9)

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” – MATTHEW 7: 24,25 We are God’s...

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Jus’ when you thought you’d seen it all

Good week to all. Welcome to the “front porch.” Through the years we’ve shared together a good helping of “jus’ when you thought you’d seen it all” columns.

OUT TO PASTOR: I may be a knucklehead, but I’m not insane

Nobody is perfect – except maybe the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage comes close. I’ve never caught her in some imperfection, or if I had, nobody would know it from me. Often my wife will catch me in something and say, “Are you acting like a knucklehead?” If only she knew I wasn’t acting.

On the job training (part 8)

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
