OUT TO PASTOR: That’s why doctors call us patients

I’ve often wondered why doctors call us patients. I have figured out that the doctors are not patient, so they expect us to be patient. I need to work on that. I had two cataract surgeries two weeks apart. It took a whole month to go through the process.

On the job training (Part 5)

“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: The greatest motivator of modern times

Good week to all. Welcome to the “front porch.” In our Bible reading for the year, some of the readers wanted to go back and go through the book of Joshua a little slower. So, we put on the brakes and are in the midst of returning to this great book.

OUT TO PASTOR: Something seems to be missing

Did you ever have a week when it felt like something was missing, but you didn’t quite know what it was? I had that kind of a week this past week. It felt like something was missing, and I could not figure out what it was. The past week was typical in many regards.

ON THE JOB TRAINING (Part 3)

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Feeling awful for the boys’ bad, bad weekend

Welcome, all, to the front porch. Here’s something funny for this week for us all. With March Madness in full bloom – and my Houston Cougars riding high into the Sweet Sixteen – I thought back to the year 2003 and of my friends down at the Y.

OUT TO PASTOR: Ants, ants, ants – where’s the uncles?

I have learned in my life that the small things are the ones that get you down. You would think the big things are the ones to steal most of your time. But those big things call attention to themselves from the very beginning.
