OVILLA – The City of Ovilla not only has a new public works building to be happy about, but a new public works director too. Being shorthanded for much of the past year, a few months ago the city hired James Kuykendall to take the lead in the public works department.

WAXAHACHIE – Back-to-school in Ellis County has either already become a reality for school-age children or will very soon. While different cities have different dates set for the first day, one thing is certain – school for the 2020/2021 will be anything but normal.

Ferris gas leak causes temporary shelter-in-place

The City of Ferris issued a shelter-in-place order Monday, August 17 at 12:38 p.m. after a large gas leak near Ferris Road and Maple was reported.  “Roads in the area are closed and we are asking for you to avoid the area,” stated a NIXLE alert.

EDDIE BERNICE JOHNSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OPENS IN WILMER

WILMER - The Eddie Bernice Johnson Elementary School is set to open September 8 in Wilmer according to school principal Umoja S. Turner. “September 8 is the first day of school,” Turner said.

ROISD swears in Police Chief Prasifka

RED OAK – Red Oak ISD Superintendent Brenda Sanford swore in new ROISD Police Chief Phillip Prasifka on Aug, 17.  Prasifka, formerly with the City of Glenn Heights for 18 years, was joined by his wife, three children who are ROHS graduates, and his parents.

After careful consideration by the executive board of directors, the Chamber has formally accepted a new lease offer, and created a formal lease agreement with Access Self Storage in Red Oak for a new office space at 561 E. Ovilla Rd., Red Oak.
