WILMER – Cars line up every Tuesday at noon to receive free food from what is called “Emmanuel’s Market.”
Emmanuel would be Emmanuel Wealthy – the mayor of Wilmer and a big believer in giving back.
“I give out everything from watermelon to collard greens to meat, cheese, butter and eggs.”
Wealthy said over the past year Emmanuel’s Market has had the chance to feed over 100,000 people.
“With no grocery store in the City of Wilmer, I knew I had to do something,” she said.
“As a city, we started with a partnership with Sprouts Farmers Market. They were not just a blessing to the City of Wilmer – they made it possible for me to bless Texas people from all over.”
A collaboration with the faith-based community and a host of other organizations, Xtreme Breakthrough Praise Fellowship Church workers who take part in the Tuesday distribution are called the “Dream Team.”
“Me and my ‘Dream Team’ are out there to serve the community,” Wealthy concludes. “We load up people’s trucks with food, drinks and non-perishable items.”
Emmanuel’s Market is every Tuesday at 4845 I-45 Service Road in Wilmer.
