  MIDLOTHIAN – Midlothian Police are investigating a June 1 shooting. Patrol officers responded to the 1000 block of Hawkins Run Road following a report of a possible shooting at 6:04 p.m.

  ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County Sheriff’s Department issued the latest scam alert. It’s been reported individuals are contacting residents by phone and falsely identifying themselves as employees or deputies of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department.

Local data center commits millions for Ellis County animal shelter

  ELLIS COUNTY – PRNewswire reported last week Compass Datacenters has committed $15-million to build a new Ellis County animal shelter. Compass Datacenters was nearby local rescue volunteers who stepped up last year and tirelessly opened their homes to keep Ellis County animals safe.

Glenn Heights 2nd annual Teddy Bear Hospital focused on fun

  GLENN HEIGHTS – The 2nd Annual Teddy Bear Hospital in Glenn Heights last month was a great success. Hosted by Glenn Heights Fire Department and Ellis County Toys for Tots, not a bear went undiagnosed.

Judge rushed from court due to health emergency

  WAXAHACHIE – Late last week County Court at Law No. 2 Judge Gene Calvert was rushed from his courtroom after a medical emergency in his courtroom. Dispatch was called and emergency crews responded to the medical situation at the 40th district court in Waxahachie.

Turn around, don’t drown

BRISTOL – Bristol Fire was dispatched Sunday, June 7 to a water rescue for a stranded motorists on FM 660 near Sugar Ridge. Ennis Battalion 191 later advised the rescue was complete. More than half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous water.

Zajic wins Prec. 2 Commissioner

  ELLIS COUNTY – The lone local GOP primary runoff held May 26 resulted in a win for Matthew Zajic for County Commissioner Precinct 2. Current commissioner in Prec. 2 Lane Grayson will now be vacating the seat he resigned from on May 1.

RO resident cited incorrectly for ‘No Data Center’ sign

  RED OAK – As approved, it will be Red Oak’s third major data center since 2020. Two others are already under construction. Several residents are not happy about the situation and are making their voices heard by utilizing signs.
