Deal struck on property tax relief

AUSTIN – Texas property owners will receive tax relief through a $18 billion tax-relief plan deal that saves face for each of the “Big Three” GOP leaders, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Speaker Dade Phelan announced on Monday.

WAXAHACHIE – The body of an 18-year-old was recovered hours after he reportedly drowned in Lake Waxahachie, according to officials.Police said officers were called to the lake on Saturday, July 8 around 1 p.m.

WILMER – In the ongoing saga of the trailer park in Wilmer which began in March, a judge in Dallas County has issued an order denying the defendant’s plea to the jurisdiction.The plaintiff is EDD RD Park LLC, and the defendant is the City of Wilmer and Mayor Sheila Petta.

Ferris city taxes may get lowered

FERRIS – The City of Ferris staff recently informed City Council by applying $642,000 from negotiated operational savings towards the city’s fiscal year 2023 debt payment, it will be able to lower the I&S (Interest & Sinking) tax burden by almost $0.24 per $100.00 value.

WAXAHACHIE MAN KILLED IN ENNIS

ENNIS – A Waxahachie man was stabbed to death in Ennis last week in the 1300 block of NW Main.Christopher Ray Meazell, 35, was stabbed in the early morning hours of June 28 by a suspect, Adam Nathan Watson, 35 also of Waxahachie.

New Ferris water tower makeover complete

The City of Ferris has a new paint scheme on its water tower located off I-45..Replacing the Ferris ISD Yellowjacket logo is a different version of the Yellowjacket on one side, and the city logo on the other side with the words “The city that bricked the world” located under the city logo.
