Ellis County Proposed Budget submitted

WAXAHACHIE – The Ellis County Proposed Budget was submitted Monday with the County Clerk and can be viewed by interested parties from now until the budget and tax rate are adopted in September.

Ellis County Historical Commission recognized

The Ellis County Historical Commission was recognized last week at the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court by the Texas Historical Commission (THC).The commission received the 2022 Distinguished Service Award by the statewide historical preservation commission.

Ellis County Toys for Tots campaign is preparing for a very busy season

ENNIS – This year the Ellis County Toys for Tots campaign is executing its 3rd Annual campaign season.The Ellis County Marine Corps League Detachment 1452 createdthis current campaign and is hosting it for the third year in a row.This year’s campaign will be conducted from Oct. 1 – Dec. 21.

Animal shelters reopen after distemper outbreak

ELLIS COUNTY – The SPCA of Texas announced last week the Ellis County Animal Shelter system would be re-opened on Tuesday of this week, Aug. 9.The Ellis County Animal Shelter has been closed for several months due to a distemper outbreak in June.

BRISTOL – The dynamics of volunteer fire departments are often hard to understand unless one needs a fire department.Even more confusing are all the Emergency Service District areas in Ellis County, basically volunteer departments who manage county fires when needed.

Ennis Police needs help identifying shop-lifting suspect

ENNIS – The Ennis Police Department needs your help in identifying a suspect who recently committed a theft at the Walmart in that city on July 28.The unidentified woman, a white female, committed a theft of $320 in miscellaneous items from the local Walmart store.

Former ECP Editor Leif Wright found dead

MUSKOGEE, OK – Former editor of The  Ellis County Press and step-son of Charles D. Hatfield Jr., publisher Leif Wright, 53, was found dead last Wednesday morning at his Muskogee home,  according to Reggie Cotton, Muskogee deputy police chief.
