OUT TO PASTOR: I miss my good friend, Tom Foolery

This past week the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage and I were having a conversation. Of course, it was more like a monologue, but you know how that works. We were thinking back over the years of our life together and reminding ourselves of some of the great and wonderful times we have had.

OBITUARY: Eugene Jistel, Jr.

Eugene Jistel, Jr. passed away to his heavenly home on Feb. 12, 2019, with his family by his side. He was born Dec. 6, 1962, to Eugene and Annie Mae Jistel Sr. in Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Jistel Sr.; His brother, James Jistel. Jr. was a very kind and loving.

Happy George Washington’s birthday

As this column is being written, Monday, Feb. 18 is President’s Day. Actually, there is no “President’s Day” holiday. According to the official list of federal holidays it is recognized as “George Washington’s Birthday.” Somehow Abraham Lincoln got tossed into the mix since his birthday is Feb. 12.

Ferris City Council elections filings

FERRIS – The residents have spoken in Ferris and the May City Council elections look to be full of new faces. Many city residents are hoping these new faces will drive voters to the polls to see change in the city. The open council seats for the May election include places 2, 3 and 5.

LOCAL STUDENT UPDATE

Matthew Louque of Waxahachie was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Louque was initiated at Louisiana Tech University.
