Good week to all: Welcome to the “front porch.” The Gospel of Luke – with little doubt – is the loveliest book ever written. During these chilly, festive days of December I think we appreciate Luke’s gospel and the physician’s brilliant storytelling ability more than ever.

Roben S. Hanes was born May 20, 1942 near Keyes, OK to Huston S. and Doris Opal (Kincannon) Hanes and joined his Savior on Dec. 20, 2019 in Dallas, TX after a lifetime of service to his fellow man and The Church of Christ. Roben lived a life of service in every aspect.

One great blessing of Christmas is presents. Of course, at my age, I am not too interested in what I am getting but rather what I am giving. I cannot think of one thing I really would want. I got everything I need even though some of it may be old and outdated.

FLANIGAN PLEADS TO 50 YEARS

WAXAHACHIE – On Dec. 13, Paul Jon Flanigan, 37, from Midlothian, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of continuous sexual abuse of a child and was sentenced to 50-years in prison without the possibility of parole.

FERRIS – With the new year just around the corner local elections for city council and school boards are on the horizon. Applications to run for local office will be available in most cities beginning mid-January.

22-year-old stabbed

FERRIS – On Saturday, Dec. 14, at approximately 8:36 a.m., Ferris Police officers were dispatched to an altercation in the 600 block of Meadow Ridge St. involving Jemyron Tatum, a 22-year-old male, and a 16-year-old male juvenile.

Life High School names new head football coach

WAXAHACHIE – Life High School Waxahachie announced today Micah Stanley will serve as its new head football coach. Stanley has been with Life High School Waxahachie for six years, serving as the team’s offensive coordinator for the previous four seasons.

As we approach Christmas day let’s take a moment to salute the grand women of Christmas. My wife knocks herself out preparing for events like Thanksgiving and Christmas. She started preparing the Thanksgiving meal two weeks in advance and for sure we had a feast.

Pelosi’s drug-pricing plan fatally flawed

You’d think Democrats and Republicans in Washington could find a way to work together to help people get the cutting-edge, lifesaving medications they need. Sadly, that’s not the case. The House is expected to vote on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s drug pricing bill next week.
