Roben S. Hanes

May 20, 1942 – December 20, 2019

Roben S. Hanes was born May 20, 1942 near Keyes, OK to Huston S. and Doris Opal (Kincannon) Hanes and joined his Savior on Dec. 20, 2019 in Dallas, TX after a lifetime of service to his fellow man and The Church of Christ.

Roben lived a life of service in every aspect. His ministry began on a baseball field as a little league coach. He was a scout master and a hunter safety advocate. Roben was also active as a teacher in World Bible School and developed several church camp programs for youth.

Roben began Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock in 1965. After Sunset, his call to preaching lead him to serve in many different congregations in Texas: Follett, Groom, Eden, and Red Oak. Roben was also involved in the Prison Ministry in Grand Prairie, Fishers of Men in Ennis, and was appointed Elder at both the Beltline at Main congregation in Lancaster and the Brown Street congregation in Waxahachie.

In the midst of serving the Church, Roben continued to grow his ministry in the funeral industry. He attended Dallas Institute of Funeral Service and became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1980.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Bob Rozell.

Roben is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol; his son, Alan Hanes and wife Cheri; his son, Randy Hanes; his daughter, Margo Hanes; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Rozell; his grandchildren, Nicole Hanes-Kosanovich, Cristen Hanes, Erin Hanes, Ambrin Hanes, Sean Hanes, Marin Hanes, Tristan Hanes, Julie Gray, Caitlyn Ellison, and Ross Rozell; 8 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Darus Hanes, Claud Hanes, and Kim Lance Hanes.

Family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019 at Brown Street Church of Christ in Waxahachie, with a Celebration of Roben’s life beginning at 3 p.m.

Interment will be at Willowbar Cemetery in Keyes, OK at a later date.
