America is in deep financial trouble, and it is getting increasingly difficult to grow out of it. This past year, our nation’s economy grew at a faster rate than at any time since 2005 at 2.9 percent, but the outlays (spending) grew much faster at more than 7.2 percent.

We Texans are fiercely independent and like to make our views known. On that, surely, we can agree. Using our First Amendment right to speak out goes hand in hand with access to public information that helps us understand how our government functions.

People around the world dream of coming to America and having a better life. Since our founding as a nation, millions have come here and found a better life than they left behind. We can be proud of this in our country.
