Czech Heritage Day celebration set for Oct. 20

DALLAS – On Sunday, Oct. 20, Sokol Dallas will be celebrating Heritage Day. The event, presented by The American Czech Slovak Culture Society and its member societies SPJST, Sokol, WFLA, KJT, KJZT, RVOS, and Vaclav Havel Czech School of Dallas will be held at 7448 Greenville Ave., in Dallas.

Marjorie (Margie) Coffey, 100, a longtime resident of Houston, passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019. Born June 2, 1919 in Clarksville, TX, she was the daughter of the late Walter Deck Coffey and Winnie Bell Pierce Coffey.

Handgun permits show 304% increase since 2007

According to Texas State Rifle Association, the number of concealed handgun permits has increased for the third year in a row. The figure now stands at more than 18.66 million – a 304-percent increase since 2007.

Ferris goes dry over the weekend

FERRIS – Mayor Pro Tem and acting Mayor/City Manager Tommy Scott is asking the citizens to use water with care. The city is also offering a $1,000 reward for the capture and prosecution of the person who opened a fire hydrant and ran the city’s water source dry over the weekend.
