Wilmer passes $7.6-million budget

WILMER – The City of Wilmer passed its budget and new proposed tax rate last week. Mayor Pro Tem Candy Madrigal and council members Sergio Campos and Melissa Ramirez voted for the $6.5 million M & O budget and $1.1 million I & S budget effective October 1, 2019.
FLOAT WINNERS – Mayors Choice: Jax Deere supporting a child with a congenital heart defect; Best Float: Freedom Heating and Air; Most Spirit: Vertical Church Band: Best Theme Republican Party of Ellis County; Most Unique:  Boy Scouts.

Ovilla Heritage Day salutes military service

OVILLA – With its annual parade and celebration of floats, the City of Ovilla saw its 56th successful Heritage Day event this past weekend. The theme this year was, “Ovilla Salutes Military Service.” Ovilla Mayor Pro Tem David Griffin said it was a record turnout.

OBITUARY: Nancy Ann Glaspy Weldon

Nancy Ann Glaspy Weldon, 78, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, in Ennis, Texas. Born Aug. 15, 1941, in Dallas, to J. Roy and Mary Ann (Maroney) Glaspy. Raised in Ennis, and graduated Texas Tech in 1963. Married Don Weldon of Lubbock June 14, 1964.

Through the years, I have experienced one dilemma after another. I remember my father once told me, “Son, when life delivers you a dilemma, make lemonade out of it.” To which I looked at him with a big grin and said, “Is there any dilemma I can make a root beer out of it?

My dad worked in underground coal mines for about 35 years. He retired and was done with that part of his life. He never sighed that he missed the good old coal mine. He lived 30 more years and he was very active.

FERRIS – At a ribbon cutting last week in Ferris, the Ferris High School FFA saw the expansion of its facilities with the opening of the new MS Hammack Project Center.
