OUT TO PASTOR: Getting old is NOT for sissies

I will not admit to being old, but I am older than I was 10 years ago. Those 10 years have been filled with all kinds of things helping me to get older. I saw an article that said that 60 is the new 40. I have no idea what that means, but I think out in our culture there is an obsession about age.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Building a case for faith

Good week to all: Welcome to the “front porch.” The amazing light of Lee Strobel – the one-time atheist turned believer – will long serve as a testimony to the power of faith.

OUT TO PASTOR: If every dog has its day, I... should be barking

Lately, I have been getting behind in my work schedule. Just when I think I am caught up, I discover something I had forgotten about. I am pretty close to being a master at the “O, I simply forgot about that” excuse. Getting away with it among most people is fine.

OUT TO PASTOR: Thinking has a way of getting me into trouble

Just when I think I have all my bases covered, a new one shows up, and it’s not a homerun. Quite often, I make the mistake of believing because I have been married so long I know my wife and what she is going to do or say next. Confidence is a tricky thing, however.

Good week to all: Welcome to the “front porch.” Recently, I had a study and visit with a very special 20-something friend who had just moved 300 miles from Little Rock to Houston. As we talked, I asked what her goals were now that she had relocated. Her answer surprised me.

Good week to all: Welcome to the “front porch.” For this week’s “front porch” visit, we come to one of life’s true realizations: Sometimes when our lifeboat is torn to pieces, we have to cling to “Splinters and Planks.” Please read on.

OUT TO PASTOR: I didn’t know how young I really was

I have heard it said that confession is good for the soul. I want to take that a step further and say confession is good for the body as well. I don’t often think about how old I am, I’m too busy with other thoughts.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Untapped resources

Good week to all. Welcome to the front-porch. It’s a brisk, cool fall morning here in Lexington, Oklahoma as I write – a good time to sit out on the “front porch.” So, grab your coffee and let’s share a story. I recently heard of a farmer in south Texas near the turn of the century.
