Serial child abuser sentenced to life + 20 years in prison

WAXAHACHIE – Bobby Trevino, 58, of Red Oak was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the continuous sexual abuse charge and 20 years in prison on the indecency with a child charge. These sentences will run consecutively.

Ellis County K9 officer retires, now lives with handler

ELLIS COUNTY – Retiring Ellis County Sheriff’s office K9 Officer Tripp was officially transferred into the ownership of his handler earlier this month in a unanimous vote by the Ellis County Commissioners.

Prospective students sample college life at TechXperience event

RED OAK – More than 370 prospective students and guests visited Texas State Technical College’s North Texas campus on Feb. 22, to participate in TechXperience.
The Ellis County United Special Olympics Delegation sent eight athletes who had qualified for the event by competing in the North Texas Region meet held at Howard Junior High in Waxahachie on Jan. 13. The team included Griffin Bilke, Wyatt Field, Paige Greenberg, Luke Griffith, Isaac Mukora, Amber Muniz, Seth Pierce and Katie Tharp. The Ellis County team brought home 13 Gold,  five Silver and four All-Around Champion medals.

Special Olympics Powerlifting Team competes at Winter Games at Bee Cave

The Ellis County United Special Olympics Powerlifting team capped off their season with a brilliant showing at the Winter Games in Bee Cave on Feb. 17.  More than 120 weightlifters from across Texas came to Bee Cave Middle School to compete in the pinnacle event of the lifting season.

Local artist to demonstrate oil painting at ECAA meeting

WAXAHACHIE – Mary Rabien, local artist, will be doing a demonstration in oil painting for The Ellis County Art Association at the monthly meeting, March 4 at First Baptist Church of Waxahachie, 450 US 287 ByPass.Rabien will also be talking about her methods, favorite subjects and goals.

Early voting turnout less than in 2020

ELLIS COUNTY – In a comparison of early voting numbers from 2020 and currently in 2024 for in-person voting, there are roughly 600 less compared to this time during early voting in 2020.

Amber Alert canceled for missing Waxahachie 12-year-old

WAXAHACHIE – The Waxahachie Police Department has canceled its Amber Alert for 12-year-old Tanya Jackson.Jackson was located this past Friday after an anonymous tip led police to a hotel room in south Dallas.

Ennis Police warn residents of vehicle burglaries

ENNIS – The Ennis Police Department is asking residents to be aware of vehicle break-ins in the city.According to Ennis PD, multiple incidents of vehicle break-ins aimed at stealing vehicles or valuables have recently been reported.
