RED OAK – Last Wednesday, April 24 at 5:54 p.m., Red Oak Police were called to a shooting at the Red Oak Town Village apartments in the 200 block of S. Ryan Drive. 

The caller told dispatch her boyfriend had just been shot by his brother. The victim’s brother also called 9-1-1 and admitted to the shooting. 

When officers arrived, they entered the apartment complex on both sides of the building, approaching the breezeway of the apartment where the shooting had allegedly occurred. 

After their arrival, they observed a male exiting the breezeway of the apartment and ordered him to stop. 

The subject, identified as 21-year-old Amari Nevaiah Wise of Glenn Heights, ran from the officers and attempted to flee in a black 2020 Ford Eco Sport. 

One officer followed Wise in the vehicle from behind while a second officer approached in a patrol car from the front of the suspect’s vehicle. 

The suspect’s Ford then collided with the front of the patrol car and came to rest inside the apartment complex parking lot. 

Police secured Wise in handcuffs and investigated the scene of the crime, securing both the apartment where the shooting occurred and the parking lot where Wise was apprehended.

Red Oak Fire Rescue and Allegiance Ambulance crews provided medical attention to the victim of the shooting, who was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Dallas by Careflite air ambulance for further medical treatment for possible life-threatening injuries.

The officer, whose patrol car collided with Wise’s vehicle as he was attempting to escape, was also transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center by Allegiance Ambulance for medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Wise was charged with aggravated assault w/serious bodily injury, aggravated assault on a public servant, and evading arrest/detention with a vehicle.

After his arraignment, Wise was transferred to Wayne McCollum Detention Center.
