MILFORD – Ayden Hayes, a 15-year-old high school football player, was declared brain dead following an ATV crash in Ellis County, with his family choosing to donate his organs.
Ayden, a sophomore running back wearing No. 4 for the Milford High School six-man football team, crashed while riding a four-wheeler with friends on Dale Acres road late Sunday, Sept. 27, a route his mother Amy Hayes said he knew well.
Placed on life support to facilitate organ donation, this choice will provide a lifeline to others.
His father, Donald Hayes, described the donation as his son’s final heroic gift, stating that it means his legacy carries on.
Hundreds from the local community gathered for a vigil, wearing blue to support the Milford Bulldogs and the Hayes family. Mother, Amy Hayes noted the overwhelming community response and expressed gratitude for the love shown.
A GoFundMe has been established for the family if you would like to contribute: https://gofund.me/db95e1699.
