Public hearing on widening FM 664 set for June 27

FERRIS – A public hearing will be held Thursday, June 27 on widening of FM 664 from Interstate 35 to Interstate 45. An open house will begin at 6 p.m. at the Ferris High School campus cafeteria. A formal presentation will start at 7 p.m.
Ceremonies were held at Ferris ISD and included K9 Riot and SRO Gabriel Flores – Lamesa Police Department, K9 Jet and Officer Kyle Walters – New Haven, Mo. Police Department and K9 Java and Officer Vernon Busby – Italy Police Department.

WILMER – Wilmer Police were called to the Wilmer Animal Shelter last week in the 2200 block of Pleasant Run Road at 8:40 a.m. on a Criminal Mischief Report Wilmer Police Chief Victor Kemp said may be related to stealing copper.

OVILLA – The Ovilla City Council set the date for its Fall Clean-Up event to take place on Sept. 14. The event will be held in conjunction with CWD who will operate the HHW collection/ recycling event at city hall from 8 a.m. to noon.

Storms across the area Sunday afternoon spread debris through damaged neighborhoods and left several hundred thousand residents without power. Winds were strong enough – up to about 70 mph – to topple large trees onto cars and homes.

Animal tethering laws still a concern

FERRIS – As the Ferris Animal Shelter was poised for cleanup and better conditions in that city, a few issues regarding what some consider animal cruelty and treatment are still being considered throughout the state. One of these issues is tethering.

Red Oak grad pursues career with ONCOR

Michael Edwards, a 2017 Red Oak High School graduate, is the first individual to be hired by ONCOR through a local program that began several years ago at the high school. The program was through the High School’s ROISD, TSTC and ONCOR.

Ellis County Court at Law No. 3 in works

AUSTIN – Representative John Wray added language to Senate Bill 891 which would create a third County Court at Law in Ellis County. The amended bill passed the House and the Senate and now heads to Governor Abbott’s desk for a signature before becoming State law.
