Wilmer residents enjoy ice family fun

WILMER – It was a warm day, but the ice didn’t melt as the city of Wilmer held an event called Wilmer on Ice. Santa Claus also arrived in the late afternoon just days before Christmas to make sure he had the wish list for all the children in attendance.

CFI donates to Wilmer’s Initiative to Spread Hope

WILMER – The City of Wilmer’s Initiative to Spread Hope got an early Christmas gift from employees of truckload carrier CFI – to the tune of $2,600. The local program was one of 19 charities around the nation supported by CFI in its annual Truckloads of Treasures holiday giving campaign.

Businesses support foster families for the holidays

RED OAK – Red Oak area businesses partnered with Red Oak Independent School District’s Community and Family Services to bring extra joy to dozens of district students currently in foster care, and the families providing that care. The first-ever Holiday Festival held Dec.

Spelling Bee winners prep for county Bee

RED OAK – Congratulations to the Red Oak ISD campus Spelling Bee champions. The week of Dec. 16, ROISD students in grades 4-8 participated in the Scripps Spelling Bee at their campus. First place winners from each campus will move on to the Ellis County Spelling Bee on Feb. 6 in Waxahachie.

Wilmer on Ice event set for Dec. 22

WILMER – For a holiday celebration that will make the holidays come alive, join the city of Wilmer for its one-day Wilmer on Ice event on Dec. 22. “Wilmer is a small hometown poised for greatness,” said Wilmer Mayer Emmanuel Wealthy-Williams.

FLANIGAN PLEADS TO 50 YEARS

WAXAHACHIE – On Dec. 13, Paul Jon Flanigan, 37, from Midlothian, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of continuous sexual abuse of a child and was sentenced to 50-years in prison without the possibility of parole.

Filing begins in January for local May elections

FERRIS – With the new year just around the corner local elections for city council and school boards are on the horizon. Applications to run for local office will be available in most cities beginning mid-January.

22-year-old stabbed

FERRIS – On Saturday, Dec. 14, at approximately 8:36 a.m., Ferris Police officers were dispatched to an altercation in the 600 block of Meadow Ridge St. involving Jemyron Tatum, a 22-year-old male, and a 16-year-old male juvenile.
