FERRIS: Fallen officers remembered

FERRIS – A memorial ceremony was held  on May 15 for Ferris’ two fallen officers,  Constable Ben Wicker and Officer Harry Marvin ‘Marty’ Steinfeldt III. The ceremony, held at the police memorial in front of city hall honored the officers killed in the line-of-duty.

FERRIS – Even today after the Political Action Committee known as Citizens to Free Ferris was successful in its campaign to put Tommy Scott and Michael Martinez into office, key member Len Baxley still doesn’t feel completely at ease.

Major crash on FM 660

FERRIS – On Sunday, at approximately 9:25 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were called to a one vehicle crash on FM 660. Preliminary investigation showed a black 1997 Lexus passenger vehicle was traveling south on FM 660.

Ovilla City Council names Griffin Mayor Pro Tem for another term

OVILLA – The Ovilla City Council named Place 3 David Griffin as Mayor Pro Tem for another term at Monday night’s city council meeting. Both Ovilla Mayor Richard Dormier and Place 2 councilmember Dean Oberg were sworn in after the election earlier this month in which neither had opponents.

HUTCHINS – Recently I visited the Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center just South East of Ellis County in Hutchins. The non-profit 501 c (3) rescue organization is dedicated to the rehabilitation of orphaned, sick and injured wild birds.
