OVILLA – The Ovilla City Council named Place 3 David Griffin as Mayor Pro Tem for another term at Monday night’s city council meeting.
Both Ovilla Mayor Richard Dormier and Place 2 councilmember Dean Oberg were sworn in after the election earlier this month in which neither had opponents. Place Four Doug Hunt was scheduled to be sworn in but was not at the city council meeting.
Place One Rachel Huber was also not in attendance at the council meeting Monday night.
A representative from Community Waste Disposal was at the meeting to discuss this weekend’s annual cleanup day.
Due to paperwork not being filed properly, residents who had intended to drop off household hazardous materials, paint and chemical products will have to wait until the fall for a second clean-up day being proposed by CWD.
All other products, as in years past, can still be dropped off as scheduled this weekend.
There were a number of complaints addressed from several citizens and also complaints called in by residents concerning the CWD service.
Everything from late afternoon/early evening trash pick-up to the bins being left in the road to bulk products not being picked up properly were addressed.
The CWD representative was given two months to try to remedy the situation. The city of Ovilla has used Community Waste Disposal in year’s past and councilmember Griffin said he was surprised the service had changed so dramatically from several years ago.
Council also passed a resolution declaring the results of the May 4 Sales and Use Tax Special Election, which passed 175 for and 40 against. Dormier said this has been good for the city and brought in $50,000 last year.
All other agenda items passed, as did the consent agenda items.
