Martinez to run for Ellis County District Attorney

ELLIS COUNTY – Julissa Martinez announced her intention to run for Ellis County District Attorney, seeking the Republican nomination in the 2020 March primary. Martinez, a mother of three, homeowner and business owner in Ellis County, has been practicing law for two decades.

1 dead in crash on FM 664, W. Highland Rd.

OVILLA – On Aug. 30 at 11:24 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were called to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of FM 664 and West Highland Road. The preliminary investigation showed a white 2011 Chrysler 200 was stopped at the stop sign on West Highland Road.

WILMER – There are three public schools and one charter school in the Wilmer Hutchins school district right now. On Sept. 24, there will officially be the beginning of one more exclusively in the City of Wilmer.

Ferris under fire from TML

FERRIS – The Ferris city council, in a special called meeting Monday, Sept. 9, went into a three-hour executive session with Texas Municipal League representatives to review several lawsuits filed against the city by former employees.

Ovilla city manager retires

OVILLA – The City of Ovilla is without a city manager this week. Last week, two-year City Manager John Dean retired. While the meeting was held in executive session and there was no reason given for his retirement, council accepted his retirement request at the Aug. 30 special city council meeting.
