FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: The Georgian who would’ve lived 89 years by faith

Welcome this week to the “front porch.”  A little more than a year ago, you and I shared the story of my dad, C. T. Bowen, on his eighty-ninth birthday. Now, a year and a half later, we pause together to say a word about my mama – Louise Bowen – as now she would’ve been eighty-nine, as well.

OUT TO PASTOR: Are homemade cookies addictive?

Some people say we are living in the “new normal.” I’m not sure exactly what they mean, and I don’t have the time to ask, nor the desire. If the “new normal” is what I’ve been experiencing in the parsonage for the last several months, I’m all for it.

This is what is taking place

What is truly sad, God is warning everyone what is coming and no one is listening or taking God seriously. It will not be until full blown disaster strikes that men turn to God, if then and the “if then” may be to late.

OUT TO PASTOR: I love a mystery... when it’s a mystery

Because of the situation we are in these days, the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage and I have spent some significant time watching mystery movies. I have always loved mysteries. I especially like those where the mystery is a challenge to figure out until the very end.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Never, ever lose your childlike wonder

Welcome this week to the “front porch.” “And Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, ‘... Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven’” – Matthew 18:1. I don’t watch the news anymore. Really.

OUT TO PASTOR: It’s my birthday, and I’ll lie if I want to

I don’t like it when people lie. If they lie once, how do you know they’re not lying again? Lately, I’ve been thinking about what the definition of a lie really is. Is there some time when telling a lie is the best to do? And, is every lie a non-truth?

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: ‘Lick that calf again!’

Welcome this week to the “front porch.”  A decade or so ago, I heard the great motivational speaker Zig Ziglar tell a memorable story that contained a powerful lesson.

OUT TO PASTOR: If i had a nickel for every blunder I made

I am not very agile when it comes to finances. Do not get me wrong, I know how to spend money; it is just that I do not know how to save money. One of my father's favorite quotes was, “A penny saved is a penny earned.” It never made sense to me, but my father knew how to save money.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: My God is real!

Welcome this week to the ‘front porch.’ In 1962, now more than half a century ago, country singer Don Gibson came out with a powerful song with a poignant message.
