FERRIS – For Starbucks fans, or those who just want to get a good coffee in the morning, the City of Ferris has some good news.

Venus man’s shooting death under investigation

ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a shooting last week, Jan. 18 around 2 p.m., after dispatch received a report of a shooting in the City of Venus.The shooting occurred in the 600 block of Bunkhouse Road, where it was reported two adult males were involved in an argument.

Annual Catch-A-Trout draws more than 50 kids

RED OAK – The City of Red Oak Parks & Recreation held their annual Catch-A-Trout on Jan. 21 at the Red Oak Municipal Lake next to Pearson Park. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocked the lake a couple days ahead of the event with more than 2,000 Rainbow Trout.

ELLIS COUNTY – The upcoming Ellis County May election will be held this year on Saturday, May 6.Filing for a place on the ballot began this week on Wednesday, Jan. 18 and will be open until Friday, Feb. 17.Early voting dates for the May election will be April 24 to 29, and May 1 and 2.

Commissioners postpone vote on Court Judge Pro Tem

ELLIS COUNTY – An item on the Ellis County Commissioners Court regular meeting agenda last week was tabled until next week’s meeting because Ellis County Judge Todd Little and the three commissioners in attendance decided to wait for Kyle Butler, pct. 4, to be in attendance to vote.
