September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, making September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, a nationwide celebration reminding everyone that the single most important school supply isn't found on a store shelf; it's a library card!

A library card is completely free to Ferris residents and opens the door to books, movies, music, research databases, computer and internet access, programs, and so much more.

Whether you're a lifelong patron or you've never set foot in the library before, now is the perfect time to stop by the front desk and sign up. Toddlers to senior citizens and everyone in between are all welcome, and getting a card takes just a few minutes.

Later this month, on Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Ferris Public Library will host National Voter Registration Day. Officials from the Ellis County elections office will be on site to answer questions and help visitors register to vote.

Whether you need to register for the first time, update your registration after a move or name change, or simply have questions about the voting process, this is a great opportunity to get it taken care of in person.

Between signing up for a new library card and stopping by for National Voter Registration Day, September is shaping up to be a wonderful month at your library. As always, our librarians, Stacey and Emma, are here to help you find your next great read, assist with research, or answer any questions you may have.

BOOK BLURB: “The Astral Library” by Kate Quinn, released 2026.

Alexandria “Alix” Watson has learned one lesson from her barren childhood in the foster-care system: unlike people, books will never let you down. Working three dead-end jobs to make ends meet and knowing college is a pipe dream, Alix takes nightly refuge in the high-vaulted reading room at the Boston Public Library, escaping into her favorite fantasy novels and dreaming of far-off lands. Until the day she stumbles through a hidden door and meets the Librarian: the ageless, acerbic guardian of a hidden library where the desperate and the lost escape to new lives... inside their favorite books.

The Librarian takes a dazzled Alix under her wing, but before she can escape into the pages of her new life, a shadowy enemy emerges to threaten everyone the Astral Library has ever helped protect. Aided by a dashing costume-shop owner, Alix and the Librarian flee through the Regency drawing rooms of Jane Austen to the back alleys of Sherlock Holmes and the champagne-soaked parties of The Great Gatsby as danger draws inexorably closer. But who does their enemy really wish to destroy – Alix, the Librarian, or the Library itself?

The library is located at 301 E. 10th St., across from Mutz Ballpark. Library staff may be reached at ferrislibrary@ferristexas.gov or (972) 544-2110, Option 9.
