CEDAR HILL

Cedar Hills Farmer’s Market opens May 9 until October from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month in historic Downtown on Cedar Street between Houston and Main Street.


ENNIS

Ennis officials responded to a gas leak in the Colonial Estates area (Plymouth Drive and Jamestown) last week. For safety, Oncor Electric turned off power for affecting approximately 40 to 50 homes. Utility crews and emergency personnel were on the scene actively working to resolve the situation safely, which was a success.


FERRIS

Ferris Animal Services and Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary successfully concluded a complex, months-long operation to rescue over 125 dogs from inhumane conditions in Ellis County. While the final phase of the operation involved the emergency removal of 75 dogs, the success was the culmination of a proactive effort to reduce animal numbers on the properties over several months.


GRAND PRAIRIE

The summer swim season kicks off Memorial Day weekend in Grand Prairie! The city-operated outdoor pools and splash pads will open for the summer on Saturday, May 23.

Here’s a look at the schedule:

• McFalls Outdoor Pool | Open 1-6 p.m., closed Tuesday

• Tyre Outdoor Pool | Open 1-6 p.m., closed Wednesday

• Bowles Outdoor Pool | Open 1-6 p.m., closed Thursday

• Splash Factory | Open 1-6 p.m. every day

GLENN HEIGHTS

To help protect sanitation crews during the summer months and avoid extreme afternoon temperatures, Community Waste Disposal will temporarily begin summer residential trash and recycling collection routes. Beginning June 2 through the end of August, residential collection services will start an hour earlier.


ITALY

Italy holds its city council meetings the 2nd Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 161 West Main Street.


MANSFIELD

Mansfield Farm & Cottage Market opens May 2 to November 21 bringing local farmers, homesteaders, artisans, craftsman, artists, musicians together for a community market every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at 703 E Broad St.


MAYPEARL

Maypearl issued a boil water notice last week on Wednesday, May 14. It was rescinded on Friday, May 15. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required Maypearl public water system, TX0700004, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.


MIDLOTHIAN

Midlothian is celebrating soccer on June 12 from 5 to 10:30 p.m. for the Midlothian World Soccer Festival & Watch Party. Enjoy free family activities, a lively Kid Zone, vendors, performances, and the game starting at 8.


MILFORD

All golf carts and off-highway vehicles operated within Milford must be registered with the city. All applicable vehicles must be registered no later than June 1 and in order to comply owners must complete a registration application, provide proof of insurance, pay the required registration fee ($30.00 cash, check, or money order), and obtain and display the City-issued registration decal. Applications and registration decals are available at Milford City Hall.


OVILLA

Ovilla’s Mayor Richard Dormier presented the Best Southwest Partnership Mayoral Scholarship to Ovilla resident and Red Oak High School student, Clay Gichuru at last week’s city council meeting. The student was described as exemplifying dedication, leadership, and a strong commitment to both academics and athletics.

PECAN HILL

Pecan Hill City Council meetings are the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m.


RED OAK

The Red Oak City Council voted to approve a third data center, despite a chamber overflowing with citizens speaking against it for three hours at the city council meeting last week along with thousands signing a petition. The City Council ignored their Planning & Zoning Commission's recommendation to deny it.


VENUS

The Venus Special Called Meeting Canceled scheduled for Tuesday, May 26 has been canceled. The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on Monday, June 8.


WAXAHACHIE

Waxahachie Lake parks will be closed over the Memorial Day Weekend, from Friday, May 22, through Monday, May 25, due to safety concerns. The parks will reopen on Tuesday, May 26.


In addition to 19 cities/towns in Ellis County (five of which straddle two counties that include Ellis), there are also 18 unincorporated towns; Alsdorf, Auburn, Avalon, Boz, Brisol, Britton, Crisp, Five Points, Forreston, Ike, India, Ozro, Rankin, Reagor Springs, Rockett, Sardis, Telico and Trumbull.
