When Ellis County students head back to the classroom over the next few weeks, there is one thing that will be missing.HB 1481 has banned personal devices in schools for the new school year.What does that mean? No mobile phones for one thing.However, the device ban goes deeper than that.

 PALMER – The City of Palmer’s first day of school is next week, Aug. 4.This year when the school bell rings, there will be a new superintendent to greet the students.Jacob Duce, Ed.D., was the lone finalist named at the end of May for the position and he was hired soon thereafter.

 GLENN HEIGHTS – For Glenn  Heights’ students heading back to school, make the city’s Back-to-School Bash on Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon your first stop to meet new friends and pick up school supplies.The Back-to-School Bash will be held at Glenn Heights’ City Center, 1938 S. Hampton Road.

Red Oak holds first annual Sweat Out Cancer 5K Fun Run and Walk

 RED OAK – The inaugural Sweat Out Cancer 5K Fun Run and Walk was held at The Oaks Church on Saturday, July 26 benefiting Hezekiah Helms to raise awareness for T-Cell Lymphoma.Over 150 runners and walkers participated in the first-ever event.

WAXAHACHIE – A lane closure in Waxahachie began Monday, July 28 allowing the city’s Streets Department the time to repair work on Indian Drive at the intersection of Highway 77.To complete these improvements safely, one lane will be closed at a time throughout the project.

 MIDLOTHIAN – The first sign of trouble at Midlothian Community Park last Wednesday at around 8:39 p.m. was the report of an aggravated assault police were working.The public was informed the park would be closed until further notice.
