MIDLOTHIAN – The first sign of trouble at Midlothian Community Park last Wednesday at around 8:39 p.m. was the report of an aggravated assault police were working.

The public was informed the park would be closed until further notice.

The aggravated assault had been relayed to dispatch in the North Ellis Emergency Dispatch Center through multiple 911 calls regarding a fight at the community park at 3601 S. 14th Street.

Several callers reported that two black male subjects were arguing in the parking lot near the baseball fields. According to the Midlothian Police, the callers stated the altercation became physical and one of the subjects produced a knife.

Patrol officers were dispatched, and the first unit arrived in the park at 8:43 p.m.

A victim who had been stabbed before the fight ended was identified as Dylan Almanza, a 17-year-old from Ennis.

He was driven by friends to Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, where he was later transported to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center.

Police said Almanza was in serious, but stable condition.

After police interviewed witnesses and gathered evidence from the crime scenes, the suspect was identified as 18-year-old Christopher Robert Nienhuis from Midlothian.

A warrant was obtained for the arrest of Nienhuis, and he was arrested at his home on Brook Meadow Drive in Midlothian.

Nienhuis has been charged with one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon (2nd Degree Felony), with additional charges pending.
