ENNIS – Joseph Silas, a two-year member of the Fairfield Police Department, turned himself in to the Ennis Police Department last week following a warrant issued for cruelty to non-livestock animals, as outlined in the Texas Penal Code 42.092(b)(1), a third-degree felony.

Silas had been terminated from the Fairfield PD on June 18 after an internal affairs investigation.

He was booked into the Ennis City Jail and arraigned.  

Since that time, he secured his bond and was released.

One day before Silas’ arrest it was also reported on the Ennis PD website  Fairfield Police K9 Officer Farock, a German Shepherd serving citizens of Fairfield with distinction had died.

“K9 Officer Farock was an invaluable asset to the Fairfield Police Department. On June 12, 2026, He tragically passed away due to a heat-related incident in Ennis, Texas,” the social media post read.

Ennis Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding K9 Officer Farock’s death.
