ELLIS COUNTY – General and Special Elections will be held on Tuesday, Nov.3 with early voting beginning on Oct. 19.

Two candidates are running for Texas House of Representatives District 10; here are their platforms:

BRIAN HARRISON

Brian Harrison is the Republican nominee and three-term incumbent.

He is a native Texan, graduate of Ovilla Christian School, and graduated as a Texas Aggie in the class of 2004.

Harrison served as President Trump’s Chief of Staff of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where he oversaw a staff of more than  83,000 and a budget of more than  $1.4 trillion.

He also was part of Title 42 to secure the border and was part of helping to defund Planned Parenthood.

Harrison’s major priorities if elected include:

• Eliminate property taxes to save Texas homeowners;

• End DEI and trans indoctrination in schools and everywhere in Texas government;

• Slash regulations to expand job opportunities and increase prosperity for Texans;

• Protect our God-given liberties.

Why I’m a better candidate:

Harrison’s statement on why he is the better candidate “No HD-10 State Representative has fought harder or delivered more conservative results for their constituents, and it is an honor to fight for freedom and liberty in Texas.

“I will continue being the most consequential voice for the people on issues that matter most, like abolishing never ending property taxes so they can own their own homes, slashing wasteful spending, keeping our communities safe, and working to make government as irrelevant to their lives as possible, so we can be as free as God meant for us to be.”

MICHAEL MYERS

Michael Myers is the Democratic nominee running against three-term incumbent Brian Harrison.

Myers has lived in Ellis County for 16 years and is retired from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, AAFES.

That agency is a DOD command, and he spent 30 years in loss prevention supporting the troops in the Army and Air Force.

Since retirement Myers has served as his neighborhood HOA president in Ovilla.

He volunteered with the American Red Cross and Texas Baptist Men in disaster relief operations and has served as a mediator with the Dallas County court system.

He also served three terms on the Ovilla City Council.

Myers’ major priorities if elected include:

• The state’s failing school system.

• Out of control insurance rates.

• The county’s data center issues and its being a big contributor to the county’s energy cost.

• Texas having reverted back from renewable power.

• Texas is opening the state to increased enrollment for Medicaid.

Why I’m a better candidate:

Myers’ statement on why he is the better candidate, “Early on in the campaign I approached Brian to introduce myself.

“As I reached out to shake hands, he turned and walked off.

“On two other occasions at candidate events, he refused to say hello to either me or two other Republican candidates running against him.

“For me this is telling of his immaturity. The more I studied his tenure in the Texas House I found other flaws.

“He has alienated most members of his own party. He rails against the Governor and other Republicans he considers Rino’s.

“It is either his way or you are a RINO. I am no fan of Governor Abbott, but I know the way to get his attention must be behind closed doors talking about the issues.

“Not public demands for special sessions which are made in the public media and fall on deaf ears.

“His own party campaigned against him in the primary elections.

“It is very apparent that he does not know how to work with others.

“This has resulted in his dismal record of passing no bills during his time in the House and getting nothing done for Ellis County.

“He has completely alienated Ellis County elected officials, school boards, city councils, and county commissioners with his rants about getting rid of property taxes and attacking their hard work on the budgets.

“He never offers a solution, just criticism for their work.

“He is a shallow thinker who prefers to rile up voters with showboating speeches that twist the facts to suit his ideas.

“He is looking for solutions where no problems exist. A confused voter is an easy mark to help him stay in office.

“Politics is about relationships being formed inside and outside your own party.

“We must rebuild the trust between our local leaders and talk to each other again.

“Brian has burned his bridges with local and state elected officials and squandered his opportunity to serve Ellis County.

“I offer mature judgment, the ability to reason out issues and work with others to accomplish progress for Ellis County citizens.”
