HUTCHINS – Dallas area residents leaving DFW Airport reported they could see the fire that broke out in the Hutchins area last week when as many as 20 vehicles caught fire in the 2700 block of Dowdy Ferry Rd.

Hutchins Fire Department alongside Dallas County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the multi-vehicle fire at a salvage yard and metal recycling facility.

The blaze was positioned on Dowdy Ferry Rd. between Middlefield Rd. and the Trinity River, which is an unincorporated area and lacked fire hydrants.

Due to the lack of fire hydrants, this complicated initial response efforts.

In addition to the Hutchins and Dallas Fire Departments, crews had to request water tankers for mutual aid, drawing additional support from surrounding agencies including Ferris DPS, Seagoville, and Wilmer.
