ENNIS – The Ennis Fire Department is one of only 21 locations in Texas that offers a Safe Haven Baby Box.
The Safe Haven Baby Box is described as a “compassionate and secure lifeline” for mothers in crisis who are unable to care for their newborns.
The baby box in Ennis is certainly a testament to the community’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable, yet the decision to give up a child is certainly never easy.
Recently, there was a surrender at Ennis Fire Station #3 using the Safe Haven Baby Box done anonymously.
Monica Kelsey, Founder and CEO of Safe Haven Baby Boxes said, “The Safe Haven Baby Box saves lives, offering a sanctuary of no shame, no blame, and no names, where mothers can find solace and newborns can embark on a safe journey.”
There are approximately 491 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in 25 states across the US.
The location of the Safe Haven Baby Box in Ennis is 1300 Country Club Drive.
There is also a Baby Box Confidential National Safe Haven Hotline at 1 (866) 99BABY1 and is available 24/7, providing free counseling and information on safe surrender, including face-to-face surrender.
Kelsey said, “This is our third baby box baby in Texas in the last six months. We are proud of the many communities that have prioritized being prepared for safe surrender across the state.”
Since 2017, 79 infants have been safely surrendered via baby boxes, and more than 200 additional handoff surrenders have been facilitated through the Safe Haven Baby Box hotline.
