ELLIS COUNTY – The Texas Education Agency released its 2026 A-F accountability ratings on Aug. 14, and while the numbers don’t show a dramatic statewide shift, there are some changes worth noting.
In fact, Texas schools saw modest gains in 2026 accountability ratings with 61% of Texas’ roughly 9,000 public school campuses earning either an A or B rating, up from 59% in 2025.
And perhaps more noteworthy, 396 campuses serving high-poverty populations earned an A rating this year.
The statewide picture looks steady, and there were no major swings as in years past.
However, the statewide percentage only tells part of the story.
For example, more campuses serving economically disadvantaged students moved into the A category.
The overall percentage of campuses receiving an A or B also increased.
And a significant number of schools that did not earn an A last year managed to move into the A category in 2026.
