RED OAK – A former Red Oak ISD student was killed in a two-vehicle crash last week on her way home from college at Louisiana State University.

Courtney Hodge, 19, was a freshman at LSU and was traveling home to Red Oak for the summer when she was in the fatal accident on Louisiana Highway 190.

Louisiana State Police reported that her vehicle, a 2025 Kia K4, apparently failed to slow down and rear-ended a semi-truck traveling westbound on the highway in front of Hodge when the truck was slowing down at a crossover.

Hodge was pronounced dead at the scene and police said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Investigators also reported Hodge was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Hodge’s mother Sherqueena Myles Jackson, who is the Red Oak ISD incoming principal of Schupmann Elementary, said her daughter had just finished her freshman year at LSU.

Hodge graduated from Red Oak High School in 2025.
