OUT TO PASTOR: My tok doesn’t always tik

Throughout my life, I have always lived on a schedule. Every day is devoted to certain tasks, and it has worked for me so far.I know what day it is by what I am doing that day.Unlike The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage, I cannot multitask.I plan my week in a very precise routine.

RESTORATION TRAINING CENTER: AI – a mind of its own

“For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words. lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.

OUT TO PASTOR: A needle named “Miss Ouch”

My father has been gone for 15 years. It hardly seems that long, but time goes by, and you can’t stop it. One of his “jokes” was, “Son, I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired.” Then he would laugh, and I would, of course, join in with his laughter.

I also didn’t notice that the black Studebaker pulled up about the time the boy got out of his truck, and Mr. and Mrs. McClain and Corrina were standing out past Red’s truck, watching the whole scene.None of that had time to compute in a mind going a hundred miles an hour.

OUT TO PASTOR: My days of wonder in the hospital

My plans for the New Year were horribly changed – by me ending up in the hospital.Around the middle of the month, it seemed like I may have had the flu. After all, everybody around me had the flu, and I just wanted to fit in with society in general.

I didn’t hear the blue truck drive up, either, but when Red finally hammered his gavel to get order in the court, he told me to go get the mixer cranked up and get the mud out. I had a little hop in my step since, for one of the first times all summer, I was not the main attraction.

OUT TO PASTOR: How old is too old?

One of my grandchildren asked me quite a penetrating question this week.Everybody knows how perceptive these little people are, especially when they are around big people.“Grandpa,” one of the little people asked, “how old are you?

Red drove up about a minute after we did. When we pulled onto the job site, Doocy jumped right out, still not having said a word to anybody except for his “nuttin’,” and he didn’t bother to holler at me to “grab thet wheelbarrer there and brang it o’er here” or anything else.

OUT TO PASTOR: I’m not old – just young challenged

Most people are fascinated by their age as if it makes any difference in their lives. Some people are very intimidated by getting older and struggle against it. When I was young, I couldn’t wait to get older. I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to get a driver’s license.
