Deadly Ferris house fire investigated

FERRIS – According to Ellis County Todd Little’s office, the Ellis County Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that occurred in the 700 block of East India Road in Ferris last week, Sept. 19.The call came in around 6:15 a.m.The fire left one person dead due to heavy fire and smoke inhalation.

ROISD names Dr. Joy Shaw Middle School

RED OAK  — The Red Oak ISD School Board approved the naming of the second middle school, under construction off Westmoreland Road in Ovilla, in honor of longtime educator and former board member Dr. Joy Shaw, who passed in 2022.

What you need to know about West Nile in Ellis County

ELLIS COUNTY – While Dallas County has seen a number of West Nile cases this year in cities bordering Ellis County, Judge Todd Little said there have been no cases in Ellis County to date or any reports of patients with the West Nile Virus in the hospital.

County approves budget/tax rate

WAXAHACHIE – Ellis County Commissioners, along with Judge Todd Little, approved the county’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget on September 10 in the amount of $210 million.

Italy survives thriller over Cayuga, 34-26

After Italy fumbled the ball away on the opening kickoff, Cayuga mounted a 6-play drive resulting in a 9-yard rollout to the left by Cayuga’s Gunner Douglas, who crossed the goal line untouched. A straight-ahead handoff to fullback Jaden Davis put 2 more points on the board for the Wildcats.
