Ellis County commissioners lift burn ban

ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County Fire Marshal Tim Birdwell reported to county commissioners earlier this month recommending the county’s burn ban be lifted.  Birdwell referred to the Keetch-Byrum Drought Index, which is an index used to determine forest fire potential.

Hawks sneak past Joshua, 21-14

JOSHUA – The Red Oak Hawks varsity football team traveled on Friday, Oct. 12 for a district contest against the Joshua Owls. Red Oak took their first possession and marched down the field going up early, 7-0. The defense stymied Joshua’s offense in the first half of the game.

BURLESON – Brendyn Jackson had two touchdown receptions in the fourth quarter, including an 8-yarder from Beau Wendel with 13 seconds left to lift Midlothian (6-1,3-0) to a District 7-5A victory over host Burleson Centennial at BISD Stadium.

MESQUITE – Jerry Meyer III threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns to lead Waxahachie over upset-minded Mesquite Horn in 11-6A Division I play at Hanby Stadium.
