RESTORATION TRAINING CENTER: Steps to find rest in the Lord

“Come to Me, all of you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 Psalm 37 gives us steps to find true rest in the Lord, something many never find.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: ‘Then Sings My Soul’ (part 1)

Welcome to the “Front-Porch.” There is so much more to be said about God’s greatness than what we can say in one short sitting. But I never go very long between writings that I want to revisit this theme and, in particular, this song. It may be the greatest song ever written – ‘How Great Thou Art.’

OUT TO PASTOR: What it was... was a boo-boo

This week I experienced a little “situation.” I was in the bathroom getting ready to take a shower when, for some reason, I slipped and went crashing to the floor. At my age, this is a rather serious “situation.”

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: When the basketball’s in your hands

Welcome to the “Front-Porch.” Testing faith when the waters are smooth and tranquil is like me testing one of my ballplayer’s mettle by shooting shots in practice with no pressure and no hand in their face.

OUT TO PASTOR: The perks of being old and ugly

Growing up, I never thought much about what my life would be like when I got old. I observed my grandparents, and I’m sorry to say that I made fun of them at times, but always behind their backs. I never, ever thought I would ever be in their situation.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: The 8-cow woman

Welcome to the “Front-Porch.” I was going through some of my old columns that began in August 1997 and paused at one in May of ’98. It was the first “graduation” column I ever wrote. I just realized it’s been 29 years since then. Hard to believe.

OUT TO PASTOR: Keeping up is hard to do at my age

There was a time in my life when keeping up was part of my daily routine. I started each day with a specific objective, and by the end of the day, I had completed it. I took pride in completing my work on time. The secret was to plan carefully.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Stretch toward the mark! (part 2)

Welcome to the “Front Porch.” Last week, we turned to the third chapter of Philippians, where Paul announces that he was “pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Our discussion led us to this question: What exactly was the “mark” he was referring to?

OUT TO PASTOR: I found another button to push

Life has its many experiences. I’m about to hit number 75 this month, a big experience for me. I’m not sure how to celebrate my 75th birthday, especially since I’ve done just about everything, so no 75 candles on my cake. The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage’s birthday is just two days after mine.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Stretch toward the mark! (part 1)

Welcome to the “Front Porch.” It is in Philippians 3. Paul pulls back the curtain to show readers for generations to come something truly amazing. It is not the only time Paul gives the readers amazing, unparalleled views of life and eternity.
