FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: When the Lord pushes you in, you swim fast!

Good day to all. Welcome to the “front porch.” Recently we shared the story of a young man who courageously swam across a lake filled with alligators and snakes. Well, he may not have been all that “courageous.” One of his buddies pushed him in, so he didn’t have much of a choice.

OUT TO PASTOR: And then, there it was

It is not that I do not like to travel; I just don’t like to leave home. I am quite comfortable at home where I have everything I need within easy reach. Sometimes I have to travel to a conference or something, which is rather inconvenient for me. However, as my friend used to say, “That’s life.”

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: Motivation may come from surprising sources!

Good week to all. Welcome to the “front porch.” For years, Zig Ziglar, the great motivational speaker, would gather his staff every Monday morning for a devotion. He called it, “the best fifteen minutes of the day.” I have carried that idea with me for many years and used it in numerous settings.

OUT TO PASTOR: Did I tell you the story…?

I was having a rather down day recently. You know how it is; you are going along 100 miles an hour and finally you crash. I was experiencing one of those reality crashes. Reclining in my chair, drinking coffee, I thought of one of my old friends. Oh my, he has been gone for almost 5 years now.

FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: John will prophecy again!

Good week to all. Welcome to the “front porch.” In our journey through the Bible these past four years, we have paused the longest at two of John’s writings: the Gospel of John, and book of Revelation.

OUT TO PASTOR: After all, it is Monday

I do not consider myself lazy. I think of myself as an Energy Conservative. I am saving my energy for sometime down the road when I may need it, and who knows when. This, however, is not the opinion of the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage.

FRONT PORCH GOSPEL: Stopped me in my tracks

Good week to all. Welcome to the “front porch.” Recently, I rehearsed the story you are about to read in a conversation with a friend from Little Rock. My friend Doug were talking after going for a long walk, and the story just popped up.

OUT TO PASTOR: And then, the thunder roared

In our house, thunder has a variety of meanings. Some not as good as others, but that is another story. Either way, I am not a fan of thunder. Recently, some heavy thunder visited our area along with rain and lightning. I was beginning to understand how Noah felt during his first night in that Ark.

FRONT PORCH GOSPEL: Scholars Henry, Maclaren join us on the ‘Front Porch’ (part 2)

Today I want to take you to an excerpt of Maclaren’s writing, this based on Nathanael’s confession in John 1, where he declares, “Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel” (v. 49).

HOPE FOR TODAY: America’s future

When the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, our forefathers built their hopes of the nation’s survival on some important principles.
