Red Oak falls short against Midlothian, 45-41

RED OAK – The Red Oak Hawks came up 30 yards short in a pivotal District 7-5A Division I offensive shoot out against the Midlothian Panthers on Friday night, Nov. 1.

In a game which had zero punts, neither defense could really stop the others offense. 

Each team had two turnovers in the game and scored on every possession except for drives resulting in the turnovers.

Midlothian (8-1, 5-0) trailed 41-38 after Red Oak (5-4, 3-2) scored 14 consecutive points in the second half, but it rallied with a 14-play, 71-yard game-winning drive that was capped by running back Michael Archie’s run into the end zone from 4 yards out with 1:11 left.

Then, the Panthers’ defense stopped a furious Hawk’s drive as time expired.

It was an exciting game with Midlothian grabbing 2nd place in the district and the right to host a first-round home playoff game. 

The Panthers’ last regular season game will be against the district’s current first place team, Highland Park. The Hawks (5-4, 3-2) travel to Tyler (4-5, 2-3) on Friday, Nov. 8 with a 7 p.m. kickoff time, eyeing the 3rd place slot and a first round playoff game.
