LITTLE ELM, TX – The Hawks rolled into Little Elm on a rare Thursday night expecting a repeat of their 2018 win over the Denton Braswell Bengals.

However, the Bengals quickly found a kink in the Hawks armor – the deep ball.

Braswell quarterback Greyson Thompson completed three passes to Cam Smith on the Bengals opening drive, including one for 45 yards and another for a 12-yard touchdown.

After the Bengals’ defense forced a turnover on downs, Smith hauled in an over-the-shoulder pass from Thompson from 23 yards out to put the Bengals up 14-0 just over five minutes into the game.

Thompson completed 22 of 35 passes for 320 yards and four total touchdowns to lead the Bengal offense.

The Hawks intercepted a pass off a tipped ball on the first play of the second quarter. Three plays later, Red Oak quarterback Joshua Ervin found Coby Cavil for a 55-yard touchdown.

Braswell came right back with a 45-yard field goal to extend their lead to 17-7.

On their next offensive series facing fourth and goal from the 1-yard line, Braswell decided to go it, and QB Thompson plunged into the end zone, giving the Bengals a comfortable 24-7 halftime lead.

The Bengals scored 17 more points in the 2nd half, while the Hawks could only put 13 additional points on the board.

The Hawks host Princeton on Friday, Sept. 6. kickoff time. Princeton is coming off a 41-0 win over South Garland.
