MIDLOTHIAN – Senior Zechariah Washington finished off a remarkable comeback, catching a 43-yard touchdown pass from Beau Wendel as time expired to earn Midlothian a 47-45 victory over Killeen Harker Heights at Midlothian ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium.
After trailing by 17 early in the second half, Midlothian (3-1) started to clawback, going on a 20-0 run to take a three-point advantage.
Harker Heights (2-2) responded, driving 70 yards to retake the lead on a 16-yard touchdown catch from Kristian Nobles.
With 18 seconds remaining, Wendel executed a quick pass and lateral that put the ball in Harker Heights territory before Washington’s catch in the end zone gave the home team its third straight victory.
Midlothian finished with 498 total yards. Wendel completed seven of his 11 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown while also adding 94 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Jayce McCoy finished with 98 total yards and a touchdown, while Michael Archie added 66 rushing yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.
For Harker Heights, Kaden Butler led all rushers with 126 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Zy’rian Evans finished with 77 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Hudson Humble completed 19 of 28 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns.
