OBITUARY: Rudy Frank Turner

November 4, 1929 – September 11, 2020

Rudy Frank Turner was born November 4, 1929, in Pilzen, Czechoslovakia. At the age of 16, he was adopted by Frank Lee Turner and Beulah Goen Turner.

Rudy graduated from Highland Park High School in 1952, then attended the University of Texas at Arlington where he studied languages.

Rudy joined the U.S. Army in 1955. While in the army and stationed in Germany, he met and married the love of his life, Margot Meerholz, on January 14, 1956. Rudy attained the rank of sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1961.

Rudy and Margot moved back to the United States where he worked as a salesman for Fredonia Seed Company until his retirement. The couple had two daughters – Shelba Distasi and Sharon Harris. Rudy considered Sharon’s husband Kelly Harris not to be his son-in-law, but his son.

Rudy was a huge animal lover. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and a fan of the New Orleans Saints as well. Rudy had a great sense of humor, and loved his family, friends and neighbors deeply.

Rudy is survived by his wife Margot Meerholz Turner of Ferris, daughters Shelba Distasi and Sharon Harris, and son-in-law Kelly Harris, all of Ferris. He is also survived by granddaughters Hannah Harris and Ruth Harris, and his faithful companion, “Tiny.”

Visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave. in Dallas, with the graveside service at 11 a.m. at Restland Funeral Home’s Garden of Freedom.
