OBITUARY: Peggy Crofford Mathis

December 21, 1933 – February 23, 2022

Peggy Crofford Mathis of Midlothian passed away peacefully on Feb. 23, 2022, at the age of 88. Peggy was born on Dec. 21, 1933, in Petty, Texas to Garvin and Maggie Crofford.

Peggy graduated from high school in Roxton, moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and started a successful business career with Public Service of Oklahoma. Later she founded a real estate brokerage called Peggy Mathis Properties in Desoto, Texas, and was elected as the first female school board member in Desoto.

After retiring from real estate, Peggy became very involved in her Church, First United Methodist Church in Midlothian, and various charitable activities.

Peggy is survived by her three children, James Mathis of Dallas, Kevin Mathis of Red Oak, and Julie Morgan of San Diego, California. Peggy also has six grand children and three great grandchildren and many caring nieces and nephews and their children.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jack Mathis of Midlothian, and her five siblings.

Memorial services were held on March 4, 2022 in Midlothian and Petty Texas.
